A young Sicilian immigrant by the name of Salvatore Pepe came to America at the turn of the 20th century in search of the American dream. In 1904, Salvatore and his son Ralph established Pepe’s Italian Bakery in Amsterdam, NY.
They made Italian breads and rolls from an old family recipe and sold them from the bakery, neighborhood markets, and made home deliveries. By the mid 1920’s, Ralph and his wife, Eva, took over the family business and expanded the business throughout the surrounding counties.
The business had successfully established its neighborhood roots while providing the surrounding area in Upstate New York a taste of the old-world Pepe family recipes.
In the mid 1960’s, Ralph’s three sons who grew up helping with the business, took ownership of the bakery when Ralph and his wife, Gerry retired.
By the mid 70’s the Pepe boys had grown the business to incorporate an semi-automated process to keep up with the customer demand and larger retail supermarkets.
In 1986, sons Ralph and Paul incorporated the business as Pepe’s Bakery Inc. As the business continued to grow, they expanded the product line to include frozen pizza dough.
Eventually the frozen dough market replaced the fresh baked business and in 2008, Pepe’s Bakery stopped baking breads and dedicated the entire business to frozen dough.
Over the last decade, growing our retail product line through innovation while maintaining our roots in quality and consistency has been the Pepe's Bakery goal.
Today, we serve the distribution centers of the growing supermarket business and our products can be found throughout most of the United States.
